Some make long drives to arrive in the Canaan Valley area, so the last thing on the list is jumping back in the car just to have dinner. Riverwalk’s location lends itself to car-free enjoyment of the town’s amenities and surrounding parklands. All of the recreational options for which Canaan is known are available at your doorstep, with the important addition of walk-to shopping and restaurants. Families find flexibility and more free time with the array of options available on foot. Timberline, Canaan Valley State Park, and Whitegrass ski areas are about a 15-minute drive from Davis. Park and be free; it’s about flexibility, lower automobile use and the more connected experience.
24X7 ALL-WEATHER ACCESS
Winter visitors must often drive all-wheel-drive vehicles to Canaan just to make the final few hundred feet of driveway in many Valley developments. And in terms of ownership, snow removal costs are greater in the remote developments of Canaan. Arriving at night, you don’t want to be surprised by snowdrifts, downed trees or unplowed driveways. Riverwalk is ½ mile from the WV48 ("Corridor H") highway exit and has well-lit, plowed access. 24x7 all-weather access is about safety, peace of mind and cost of ownership.
RESPECT FOR THE BLACKWATER RIVER
Riverwalk overlooks the Blackwater River as it flows between Town and the Blackwater Falls State Park. Upstream are the fragile wetlands and headwaters of the endangered Blackwater River as well as a trout stocking point. A mile downstream are the majestic Blackwater Falls. Riverwalk fronts about 1,000 feet of the Blackwater. In our infrastructure design we are managing William Avenue runoff and using designs and materials to maximize absorption rather than runoff.
